The Estación del Norte (Train Station) is the main train station in Valencia. In 2010 more than 14 million passengers passed through this train station. 11 million of these passensgers were using the commuter train service.
It was inaugurated in 1917 by the company Caminos de Hierro del Norte de España, who assigned this project to the young architect Demetrio Ribes.
Located in the city centre and just across the bullfighting ring. It is also really close to one of the main shopping streets in Valencia (Calle Colón).
Notice that there are two train stations in the city center of Valencia (Estación del Norte and Joaquín Sorolla). Make sure if you are going to take a train that you know which station you depart from. For example: Currently (as per 2018), high speed trains to Madrid depart from Joaquin Sorolla’s Train Station.
The architecture of the building is marvellous. We should also take into account that this building is involved in a big project to change the city center (Parque Central). The project includes taking the Estación del Norte railways underground.
