Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias
- Designed mainly by Santiago Calatrava (a Valencian architect that is quite well-known all over the world)
- The first building to open its doors was L’Hemisferic in 1998. The last building to be built was the Ágora.
- Located in the Turia’s old riverbank (since 1980 the old riverbank was turned into a park).
- Construction work initiated in 1994 and there was a huge controversy with the construction works as the budget for these was much lower than the actual costs.
- The main buildings that compose the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias are: L’Hemisferic (an IMAX cinema), Museo de las ciencias Príncipe Felipe (a Museum), L’Umbracle (a gallery that is also a night club), L’Oceanografic (an aquarium), Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofía (an opera), El Puente de L’Assut (a bridge) and El Ágora (an arena for concerts and tennis tournaments).
